Felt's AeroRoad-4

In between the pure road and the time trial bikes in Felt’s lineup is the AR series of bikes, or “Aero Road”.  These bikes have many of the frame shaping for aerodynamics that are present on the time trial bikes, but have a fit that sits the rider in a classic road position.  Taking a look at Felt’s F series of bike, their long-and-low fitting bike, and the Z series, their endurance shorter-and-taller fitting bike, the AR sits clearly in between, with a nearly completely flat top-tube and taller head-tube lengths.  Larger riders will appreciate the geometry of this bike – you’ll get the length that you need from it.

Cable routing is better than other aero-road bikes, with no funky cable stops to mess with.  Felt equips their bikes with a lot of house-brand parts to manage costs, but supplies the AR4 with a full Ultegra groupset.  The very intriguing thing about the AR series is that they are all built with the same Ultra-High Modulus carbon, so you can pick your price point and be assured that you are getting Felt’s best.

I’ve ridden this for about 2 months and without hesitation I can recommend it as the top all-around bike for 2010.  The ride quality is smooth and comfortable, it accelerates very well, and this bike, shown with cages, pedals and Reynolds DV66T wheels in a size 58 came in just over 16 lbs.  Nice.
